Sound of Silence post 4

So far I have seen my project taking a turn more towards abandonment and society falling apart instead of being so literal and recreating the lyrics. In this session I went to a location I pass often in Wallingford. Its a small cleared out lot with these 4 tiny falling apart huts and a bridge that leads to what seems to be an abandoned motel. These buildings have been sitting here rotting away when the land or buildings could be refurbished and used to house people who have no place to live. To me this just shows the priorities our society has chosen.

this photo below shows a fallen over sign I found in front of the cabins. The planning department was supposed to meet on December 13, 2010...and yet the sign is not standing and the rotting buildings remain.

Sound of Silence Post 3

When I listen to this song I remember the era it came out in, when America was going through a rough patch in society and the government. So to find some inspiration I played the song in my car as I drove around my hometown, some areas a little rougher around the edges then others. When I see what our world is becoming, the vandalism and lack of consideration for the community it seems to be a repeat of when the song came out in the 60's. So I found a beat up old building that seems to be falling apart just like the world around it. When I stopped my car in front of this building with the song playing in the background it just fell into place. Enjoy!

"Sound of Silence" By: Simon and Garfunkel.

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence
